Question: What is Studio.3-D.ca all about? Answer: It is simply an on-line virtual 3-D art studio that you can customize and purchase for yourself. Studio 3-D is not like any art studio. It is fully interactive. By this we mean that, like in the real world, the user walks through the studio to view the art contained therein. Although this version doesn't, it can also contain personal information about the artist, include information on future exhibitions, and contain contact information. Question: Why is the Shockwave portion of the site taking so long to load? Answer: With thousands of lines of complex code, the Shockwave attachment is not going to be tiny. At over 650kB, the amount of time it takes to load is considerable. Hence the reason why a fast internect connection is recommended. In addition, the download speed is also related to the amount of Cache available to your browser, and your RAM. If you have little RAM, a low processing speed, and are using a 56k modem connection, you may be required to wait as much as 4-6 minutes. However, during several 56K v2 modem tests, a 1GHz G5 with 1GB of available RAM loaded the site in considerably less time. If you are using ADSL or higher, the download may only take 2-3 seconds. Note: You may also need to download the latest version of Shockwave Player in order to experience the rich and engaging aspects of Studio 3-D. (Shockwave 10 or greater is necessary.) Question: What happens if I do not have Shockwave to load the site? Answer: To experience Studio.3-D.ca, your Web browser must have the current Shockwave plug-in installed. If installed, Shockwave player will automatically load when accessing the studio portion of the site. If you are having problems receiving your free Shockwave player, you can easily download Adobe's Shockwave version 10 by clicking on "Download Shockwave." Downloading Shockwave may take several minutes. A note to AOL users: if you are using the AOL browser, you may have trouble with Shockwave. (AOL is not supported by Adobe.) Be sure that you are using the most recent version of the AOL software, and that you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox rather than the built-in AOL browser. There is more information available on AOL, along with a link to a free download of a supported browser. Question: Why does Shockwave stop loading halfway through? Answer: If the Shockwave file stops loading without receiving any content from the server (for example, because the user stops its task in the Network Activity window), the page will now notice that it has stopped loading. Hence the message, "Done." Make sure you have an active connection and refresh the page to load the file again. Hopefully the problem won't repeat itself. Question: Why is the 3-D studio not running smootly (chugging)? Answer: This problem is the result of applying "Software Renderer" to render the 3-D image. Simply right-click (option-click on the Mac) anywhere within the 3-D studio. In the pop-up menu, go to 3-D Renderer, and select "Always Use Hardware". The preferred Hardware to use is Direct X7, Direct X5, OpenGL, or better. If a hardware option is not available, you may want try one or more of the following, then refresh the browser:
Question: Why does light seem to reflect off the studio images? Answer: This problem arises by applying "Software Renderer" to render the 3-D images. Follow the steps given in the previous question. Question: In the 3-D Studio I just see a black background and a few objects (pictures, wall, etc). Answer: This problem could be the cause of two issues: 1) You are using "Software Renderer." Simply follow the steps mentioned above. 2) Your download is so slow that the content has not loaded before accessing the information. Access another portion of the site and return to the page at some later time. The content will continue to download while you're accessing other sections of the site. It will be displayed automatically when you return to the page. Question: Why am I unable to look around the 3-D Studio using the keyboard? Answer: The numeric codes of the input keys may not correspond to that of an American English configured keyboard. Adjust the settings to your keyboard or simply navigate using your mouse only. Also, make sure that the 3-D Studio is selected when navigating through it. To select it, click anywhere within the studio. Question: Why did my instructions disappear when the 3-D Studio was entered? Answer: This is normal. If this were not the case, hovering over the images within the studio would cause text to overlap with the instructions. Just click on the question mark and your instructions will reappear.
